Streptococcus agalactiae cultivated on Columbia agar with 5% defibrinated sheep blood. Cultivation 24 hours in an aerobic atmosphere enriched with 5% carbon dioxide. Colonies are beta-hemolytic, but hemolysis is visible only directly underneath colonies (e.g., after removal of a colony with a loop).
